  • Tomatoes!

A lady was supposed to deliver about 10 pounds of tomatoes Saturday afternoon for us to have for sandwiches.  She did not arrive until 8:30, after I had gone to sleep!  Elizabeth went out to get them, came back in somewhat breathless, and informed me that the tomatoes were so pretty, she was going to can them!  All 35 pounds!   (I wasn't sure when -- as the next day was Sunday, and on Monday she would be in Charleston working, and I would be at work also!)At 9 PM we had the water on to scald those round objects, she was washing jars, and I cut and skinned the tomatoes, slid them into the jars, and by 11:30 the first canner was coming off the stove!

There were 19 quarts of whole tomatoes when we finished, and about a dozen left for sandwiches.

My life is filled with "impromptu" type memories.  One of the most often recalled is one of the trips we took to Pa. on a Friday night after looking at slides as a family.  (My sister had just gotten out of the hospital, and her throat was quite sore yet!) My father had suggested visiting one of his aunts when he saw her picture, and mother immediately said that there was a wedding she wished they could attend the next day! I do not know how long it took to pack, but we attended the wedding!!  Could not tell you much else about the trip, but learned that "impromptu" decisions can be good memories.

  • There are two kinds of people ...those that plan ahead, and those that act on the spur of the moment.  My husband is the first kind, and I am the second kind.  If I even suggest going on an excursion on the spur of the moment, he will say, we can't just do that, we have to plan ahead.  But he is a good husband ... he keeps my feet on the ground, and I think I have helped him to loosen up a bit.  Ruth

  • Hello - I saw you subbed to my site and am trying to figure out if we know each other.
    God bless ~E

  • I wandered here from innacanoe's site. I too was inspired by her to be accountable to xanga world about my weight loss issue. Actually, I started my blog because of that. I like it. I don't feel so alone in this and I have recieved some good suggestions for books to read that have been helpful to me. Welcome to the weight loss club. (I just now made the "club" thing up.) But why not be a club?

    God bless you!

It was brought to my attention that if one has the ablility to better themselves healthwise, and does nothing about it, then we have no "right" to ask a medical plan to cover expenses for things that are caused by our lack of discipline.

Wow! Never thought about that! Tis true though.

    Thanks

  • Talk about being flexible. That was very flexible. Bless your heart for taking the time to do that so you wouldn't need to work on Sunday. And think of the memories now.

About your comment concerning the weightloss issue. OUCH. Oh, do you really believe that? Technically, couldn't most health issues be related in some way to lazy upkeep of our bodies? Do we really not expect to help folks with med expenses if they could have avoided the illness by taking better care of themselves? I'm not real sure about whether I agree entirely. Just thinking yet. But thanks for raising the question. I'd appreciate further discussion on it if you want to.

  • ryc on my site today: I like that Good Samaritan concept a whole lot. Just today I was looking through various websites for some sort of Christian Weight Loss help and found some very interesting articles concerning this very issue. I have been thinking it over all day and I like what you had to say about it.

Yes, I did speak at the women's seminar last year. Thanks for giving me a face to go with your name. Will you be there againt this year? My daughter and I plan to and also some other women from our area.

  • I'm still fairly new to xanga, and I apologize for being ignorant, but what does "ryc" stand for. I see it every-now-and-then and have not been able to get it yet. Could you help me out with that?  Thanks!!

Oh.yeah... I just found out who you are! Roy's sister. I'm his sister-in-law. Neat!

  • Don't you hate when you post on the wrong site!
